Hammock from San Jacinto – Bolivar, crafted 100% in cotton on horizontal looms and by hand by artisans from the municipality.
Artisan master Gladis is a testimony of love and passion for tradition. She learned to weave from a very young age and has passed on her knowledge to generations of her community.
The art of hand-carving wood, a tradition passed down from generation to generation, where they represent animals from the Colombian fauna and often depict the carnival festivities of Barranquilla.
The wood is carved with machetes, shaping the forms of the animals, then sanded, and a layer of white paint is applied before adding the final design. This is a 100% handmade process by our Colombian artisans.

In the Land of the Great Hammock, I met Gladis, a master artisan who has been working with us since our foundation in 1986. With a smile and much love, she welcomed me into her home. We talked for hours as she showed me her workshop and San Jacinto, the place where she was born and learned to work magic with her hands. From Cartagena, I took a bus to San Jacinto where I experienced the magic of this place, the people, people who greet you with a smile from ear to ear and show you their culture.
Gladis has been the teacher of many other weavers, weaving for 40 years and passing on her knowledge to other women who are grateful for her contribution because thanks to her art, they have been able to educate their children and have a home. I was impressed by the love with which they work, the passion, and the history behind what they do. This artisanal technique dates back to the Zenú indigenous people, who wove on looms while sitting, without vertical looms, until the Spaniards designed the vertical loom that stayed. They are made of wood, approximately 2 meters wide or more, on which they begin to build the hammocks, using various sticks to tighten the weave to achieve the final loom that we see in the hammocks, where they transmit their thoughts, emotions, and culture with the designs they include in the weave.
